"Conservation areas, including conserved forests and other preservation areas, are the backline defense of the Republic of Indonesia," Bakar remarked at the Youth Conservation Fest 2024 held here on Tuesday.
Bakar affirmed that the ministry is striving to strengthen the protection of conservation areas, and those efforts encompass inviting members of the younger generation as the main driving force.
After observing several countries she had visited and representatives she met during international forums, Minister Bakar concluded that the participation of people, including youngsters, in Indonesia, is better than that observed in other nations.
"I have traveled to many countries in the world, and Indonesia is among those that are quite advanced in young people's participation (in conservation efforts). I laud the Indonesian young generation. We have set a good example," she stated.
Moreover, she emphasized that the government is committed to addressing various problems in the environmental sector, such as climate change, biodiversity, and waste problems.
"Indonesia's commitment to handling climate change, (maintaining) biodiversity, and reducing pollution is very strong," she stressed.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has stated that the Law on the Conservation of Biological Resources and Ecosystems (KSDAHE) or Law No. 34 of 2024 is aimed at strengthening conservation and preservation efforts.
The ministry's secretary general, Bambang Hendroyono, remarked that Law No. 34 of 2024, which is the revision of Law No. 5 of 1990, strengthens the implementation of regulations related to natural conservation efforts that have been in effect for over three decades.
