Jakarta (ANTARA) - Eight of the 15 state border crossing posts across Indonesia are fully operational, according to Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian.

"Currently, there are 15 border posts, eight of which are complete and operational," he said during his remarks, streamed on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

He reported this to President Joko Widodo ahead of the inauguration of seven integrated border posts in North Timor Tengah, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday.

Karnavian explained that the construction of these border posts is aimed at accelerating infrastructure development in the country’s border areas.

The eight fully operational posts include three in West Kalimantan, three in East Nusa Tenggara, one in Papua, and one in South Papua.

Since October 21, 2022, the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) has been working to ensure the border posts are operational, Karnavian added.

Of the additional seven border posts inaugurated on Wednesday, the Serasan Border Post in Natuna, Riau Islands, is fully equipped to provide customs, immigration, and quarantine services with a staff of 55 personnel.

Karnavian emphasized the significance of border posts in strengthening integration and security in border areas while also offering essential services to the community.

He expressed hope that the border posts would expedite services in border regions and stimulate the local economy.
