Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto stated that the Indonesian Military (TNI) has successfully maintained national sovereignty and integrity for 79 years.

"As a patriot and knight of the nation, (the TNI) has always maintained, supported, and defended the ideology of the Pancasila state," Tjahjanto remarked in a video extending congratulations on the 79th anniversary of the TNI, uploaded on its official Instagram account @puspentni here on Friday.

Tjahjanto, who served as TNI commander from 2017 to 2021, affirmed that the institution has successfully maintained the nation's sovereignty and integrity due to its several strategies.

He explained that TNI's modern approach and adaptive outlook towards current developments have made it relevant in facing various challenges of the times.

TNI is actively modernizing its defense system, providing education relevant to the current development to its soldiers, and being adaptive in responding to various geopolitical challenges.

TNI, founded 79 years ago, is expected to continue to serve the country by strengthening the defense capability and maintaining the nation's sovereignty.

"Continue to uphold the soldier's oath and the eight TNI obligations to realize the TNI's (vision of) being Prime, Professional, Responsive, Integrated, Modern, and Adaptive," Tjahjanto stated.

He affirmed that the TNI must continue to maintain its professionalism and increase synergy for the sake of the country.

The TNI will officially turn 79 on October 5, 2024. Apart from Minister Tjahjanto, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force, Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono, also expressed his appreciation and hope for the military.

"Together with the people, the TNI is ready to oversee the national leadership towards an Advanced Indonesia," he stated.
