"A strong ASEAN in the future is one built through close collaboration between its leaders and its younger generation," he stated during the ASEAN Leaders' Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth in Vientiane, Laos, on Wednesday.
He emphasized that cooperation between leaders and youth is crucial not only for addressing existing challenges but also for finding innovative solutions that can bring positive change to the region.
Amin noted that the youth have a significant role as drivers of sustainable social innovation, which may be local in nature but can have a global impact.
He added that young people are expected to develop creative solutions to everyday problems in their communities, from improving access to clean water to finding recycling and waste management solutions.
To achieve these goals, Amin urged young people to harness technology as a tool for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He pointed out that youth contributions could also help boost ASEAN's digital economy, which is projected to grow to between US$300 billion and US$1 trillion by 2030.
Amin further highlighted the importance of the youth’s role as agents of peace.
The younger generation has the potential to bridge communication and foster intercultural understanding amid increasingly complex global challenges.
In light of current geopolitical conditions and tensions between countries worldwide, Amin encouraged the youth to actively promote peace within society.
"Youth can participate in cross-cultural dialogue and exchange programs to foster mutual understanding, engage in digital diplomacy, and take part in international youth forums," he said.
Concluding his remarks, Amin called on young people and governments to collaborate in addressing social and economic challenges.
Such partnerships, he added, are expected to generate creative ideas and policies for community development. Related news: ASEAN - Indonesian VP highlights importance of solving Myanmar crisis
