Vientiane, Laos (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin identified three cooperation sectors for ASEAN member countries and Japan to increase regional economic growth in the future.

"The ASEAN-Japan partnership has contributed to peace and stability, as well as supported regional economic growth. This cooperation must be oriented toward the future with three priority cooperation (sectors)," he said.

He delivered the remarks while speaking before ASEAN countries and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the ASEAN-Japan summit, which was held as part of the 45th ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos, on Thursday.

Amin said that the first cooperation is promoting green economy.

According to him, support from Japan is needed to accelerate the energy transition in the region, especially through innovative financing mechanisms and low-carbon technology transfer.

He said that the ASEAN-Asia Zero Emission Community Summit is considered to strengthen collaboration to accelerate the energy transition in the region.

The second cooperation is accelerating the digital economy transformation.

Amin said that the great potential of the digital economy must be utilized properly, including through Japan's support for the ASEAN Digital Economy Agreement (DEFA).

"We must ensure that the ASEAN-Japan partnership can strengthen community skills and the integration of MSMEs into the digital ecosystem," he added

Cooperation for future technology, such as artificial intelligence and the implementation of Society 5.0, can also be advanced, he said.

Highlighting the third cooperation sector, the Vice President lauded Japan's support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).

He said that the ASEAN-Japan partnership must become the driver of regional stability and peace, as well as consistently implement international law.

In his closing remarks, on behalf of Indonesia, Amin expressed the hope that Japan would consider recognizing Palestine to realize peace and achieve a two-state solution.
