"There are many people who are involved in the halal certification process. Thus, we do not only encourage people to get their products certified as halal but also create a job ecosystem," BPJPH Head Aqil Irham remarked here on Friday.
He noted that more than 100 thousand people have been involved in the certification process as halal auditors, halal supervisors, and assistants for the halal production process.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs still needs auditors, supervisors, and assistants for the halal production process, especially targeting micro and small business players. Those workers are tasked with convincing MSME players to certify their products.
"Halal certification must go through an audit by assistants, so the assistants must be trained. If for two years they do not have significant achievements, they will be removed from the Sihalal (halal certification application) list and replaced by new workers," he remarked.
According to Irham, under the leadership of Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, the halal certification process has experienced a significant change. The certification process has currently been made shorter to only around eight to 11 days.
Furthermore, from 2012 to 2018, only 668,615 halal products have been certified. Meanwhile, from 2019 to date, the number of halal products certified reached 5,302,257.
Earlier, Minister Qoumas underlined that technological innovation is the key to increasing the quality and quantity of products. Technological innovation is also deemed important to realize sustainable halal product assurance implementation.
"Through technological innovation, halal (certification) can play a role in responsible production and consumption and become one of the points of Sustainable Development Goals," he noted in a statement from his ministry on Thursday.
