Solo, Central Java (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited his alma mater schools in Solo City, Central Java, ahead of his retirement that will begin after he hands over the government to President-elect Prabowo Subianto on October 20.

President Jokowi on Saturday visited public elementary school SDN Tirtoyoso 111, public junior high school SMPN 1 Surakarta, and public high school SMAN 6 Surakarta.

The president arrived at SDN Tirtoyoso 111 Banjarsari Sub-district at 8:11 a.m. local time and interacted with students.

Principal of SDN Tirtoyoso, Lelly Maria, stated that President Jokowi also reviewed the 4th and 5th grade classrooms.

"He had the time to feel nostalgic, and he also met his childhood friend. He was his school friend during elementary school in the same academic year," Maria revealed.

Maria said it was the first time that President Jokowi had visited his former elementary school since becoming the head of state.

"He had visited when he was the mayor (of Solo) but the first time since he became the president," she remarked.

After visiting the elementary school, Jokowi distributed food packages to residents around the school and handed over assistance to tricycle taxi drivers.

The president then continued his nostalgic trip to SMPN 1 Surakarta where he was welcomed by the school principal, Wuryanti.

According to Wuryanti, Jokowi also visited the school several times during his term as city mayor.

The school principal stated that the president had urged teachers to continue educating students so they grow with good morals.

"He expressed hope that the students can continue to gain achievements and have noble character," she noted.

The president then headed to his high school alma mater at SMAN 6 Surakarta.
