President-elect Prabowo Subianto and political party leaders discussed post-presidential inauguration matters during a meeting at the Defense Ministry's Office on Thursday, according to Golkar Party chair and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
"We, leaders of coalition political parties, and Mr. Prabowo discussed the developments (likely to ensue) after his inauguration," he told the media after participating in the meeting in Jakarta.
Lahadalia emphasized that the meeting did not touch upon the discourse on the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) joining the incoming government.
"No, we did not talk about that. We discussed the state, not parties," he said.
The minister also dismissed conjectures that the meeting was held to arrange the composition of Prabowo's ministerial Cabinet, adding that the President-elect will himself announce his Cabinet structure.
Chairperson of the National Mandate Party (PAN) and Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan conveyed a similar statement, saying that Prabowo and party chiefs convened to discuss future steps.
"Hopefully, we will be able to unite and drive Indonesia to become a developed country," he said.
Hasan told reporters that party leaders also wished Prabowo on his 73rd birthday during the meeting.
Earlier, Prabowo, who is currently serving as defense minister, traveled to the Defense Ministry's Office in Jakarta after holding briefings with dozens of individuals nominated for deputy ministerial posts at his residence in Bogor, West Java.
Besides Lahadalia and Hasan, the President-elect also met with National Democratic (NasDem) Party chair Surya Paloh; acting president of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Ahmad Heryawan; chairperson of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Muhaimin Iskandar; and chair of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, on Thursday.
Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, executive chairperson of Prabowo's Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, also attended the meeting.
