Jakarta (ANTARA) - Muhaimin Iskandar, selected by President Prabowo Subianto to be the coordinating minister for people's empowerment, will occupy the office on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat Boulevard in Jakarta.

Iskandar noted in a statement at the Presidential Palace here on Monday that the office building was earlier used by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

Iskandar explained that the Coordinating Ministry for People's Empowerment will oversee the work of several ministries, including the Ministry of Co-operatives, the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Creative Economy Ministry, the Social Affairs Ministry, and the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection.

"We also oversee agencies related to institutional, personal, or individual empowerment," he remarked.

Iskandar affirmed that his side would encourage an increase in the institutional capacity of co-operatives and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as speed up people's empowerment.

In carrying out his duties, the National Awakening Party (PKB) chairman sought support from the community and national and religious figures.

"(This is) so that I can carry out this difficult duty and so that under Prabowo's five-year leadership, the government will boost progress in economic growth and welfare," he stated.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated 48 ministers in his "Red and White" Cabinet for the 2024-2029 period and five ministerial-level officials at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

Iskandar paired with Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan as his VP candidate in the 2024 Presidential Election, contesting against Prabowo-Gibran and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

On April 24, 2024, the General Elections Commission (KPU) determined Prabowo and Gibran as the elected presidential and vice presidential candidate pair in the Presidential Election.

The pair secured 96,214,691 votes, or 58.59 percent of the total valid national votes, obtaining at least 20 percent of the vote in each of Indonesia's 38 provinces.
