Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Republic of Indonesia (RI) advocated for stronger multilateral cooperation at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) held in Washington, D.C., on Oct 21-26.

During the meetings, Indonesian Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono highlighted increasing global economic risks and geopolitical conflicts that had suppressed economic growth.

To this end, Djiwandono called for strengthening multilateral cooperation through structural reforms and green investment to maintain the sustainability of long-term economic growth.

Participants of this year’s IMF-WBG meetings discussed global issues, including the World Bank's evolutionary roadmap in helping member countries meet the needs of Global Public Goods, such as green energy, food, health, and infrastructure.

The meeting also reviewed human resource development to support the achievement of sustainable development goals and the role of the IMF in addressing increasing economic, monetary, and geopolitical risks.

Deputy Minister Dijwandono started his agenda by attending the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action.

He also attended the ASEAN-IMF Closed Door Annual Roundtable of the ASEAN Finance agenda to discuss challenges and priorities for the Southeast Asian region.

He then participated in the 4th meeting of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) G20, which was the last meeting under the Brazilian G20 Presidency.

In addition, Djiwandono attended the Task Force on a Global Mobilization against Climate Change (TF-CLIMA) meeting which was an initiative of the Brazilian G20 Presidency that brought together Sherpa and Finance Tracks to discuss achieving climate targets according to the Paris Agreement.

He played an active role in the main agenda of the Development Committee Plenary with the Board of Governors of the IMF and WBG member countries.

In addition to attending the main agenda, the Indonesian deputy minister of finance held bilateral meetings with several partner countries and multilateral development banks (MDBs).

He also met with the president of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the vice president of the World Bank (WB) for East Asia and the Pacific.

The Indonesian delegation's participation in the 2024 Annual Meetings of the IMF-WBG confirms its commitment to shared priority issues, including climate change action and sustainable development.

Green finance, energy transition, multilateral cooperation, and MDB reform are crucial factors in realizing these commitments.

In addition, bilateral meetings with partner countries and MDBs, aimed at boosting investment and regional economic development, will also contribute to achieving Indonesia's commitments and priorities in the future.
