Jakarta (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo expressed strong support for the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) Chairman Budisatrio Djiwandono's vision to build the basketball industry in the country.

Djiwandono secured his position as Perbasi's general chairman for the 2024-2028 period after being the sole candidate in the election and winning by acclamation.

"I believe in Djiwandono's leadership, who has conveyed Perbasi's visions, missions, and the next steps for Perbasi. Once again, congratulations Mr. Djiwandono. Good luck on (fulfilling) your duties," Ariotedjo stated while giving a speech at the Perbasi National Congress on Tuesday (October 29) evening local time.

He emphasized that Perbasi, under the new leadership, should focus on integrating basketball into Indonesian society's lifestyle. Hence, he deemed Perbasi's steps to prioritize developing the basketball industry as appropriate.

"It is about how to make basketball (sports) an industry that can create jobs. It has so many aspects, such as the equipment like rings and balls, and the venues, and eventually, it is about how to gain achievements in basketball," the minister affirmed.

At the Perbasi National Congress last night, Djiwandono presented eight missions aimed at building the national basketball industry. It is also part of the efforts to realize the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045, or Indonesia as an advanced country by 2045.

One of the eight missions is organizing basketball championships at both national and international levels across all age groups.

He also initiated 3x3 basketball tournaments for both male and female categories.

In addition to inaugurating the new Perbasi chairman for the 2024-2028 period, the national congress unveiled the organization's redesigned logo.
