Sentani (ANTARA) - The Jayapura district government and Papuan customary communities have pledged to collaborate, and support the central government's food estate program, the district head, Semual Siriwa, said in Sentani on Sunday.

The food estate program was launched by the Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin administration, and is continued by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, he said.

Siriwa highlighted the importance of realizing that the food estate program and other sustainable development programs must involve native Papuan communities .

"In Papua, every program, initiated by both central and regional governments, needs to engage native Papuan communities to make the goals of development achievable as expected," he said.

According to Siriwa, the food estate program is so good as the central government is striving to build an integrated food system.

"The land is owned by the indigenous communities. That is why, the program must involve them so that they will.also be able to enjoy an improvement of welfare as a result of the good impact of the program," he said.

He further said that the food estate program will have a direct impact on the Papuan people's economy.

"The food estate development program need also be conducted in line with the 2025-2045 Jayapura District Long-Term Development Plan -RPJPD- 2025-2045," he said.

To this end, the representatives of both central and regional governments must sit together to discuss the plan by involving indigenous people in all areas of Jayapura District.

"We certainly hope that the program will help improve the welfare of residents in Jayapura District," he said.
