Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and his United States counterpart, Joe Biden, agreed on Palestinian independence as part of a two-state solution to end the humanitarian conflict in Gaza.

This was conveyed in the Joint Statement document of President Joe Biden and President Prabowo Subianto published by the US White House via the whitehouse.gov page on Tuesday local time.

"Both leaders remain committed to a viable and independent Palestinian state and Israel’s security concerns as part of a two-state solution," the statement said as quoted on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two parties also pressed for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza followed by the immediate release of hostages, prisoner exchanges, smooth delivery of humanitarian aid, and an end to the conflict.

Prabowo and Biden expressed deep concern over the alerting humanitarian condition in Gaza and condemned all attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

"The leaders emphasized that the future recovery and reconstruction of Gaza will depend on the continued engagement of the international community," the statement said.

Hence, unilateral actions that threaten a two-state solution must stop, including Israeli settlement expansion and violent extremism on all sides.

The two parties also recognized the need to prevent the conflict from escalating and spreading further, including to Lebanon. Biden and Prabowo then reaffirmed the importance of reaching a diplomatic resolution in Lebanon.

Moreover, Biden expressed keenness to expand cooperation in addressing the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, noting the successful delivery of Indonesian humanitarian aid to Gaza in April.

"The leaders pledged to team up to facilitate the medical evacuation of Palestinian children to receive critical care and committed to supporting humanitarian and early recovery activities in Gaza," the statement remarked.
