The visits are part of its activities in the 2024 Pacific port visit task force.
Head of the Information Service of the Indonesian Navy Fleet III Command Lieutenant Colonel Ajik Sismianto informed on Thursday that the task force provided health services and distributed medical aid packages to Vanuatu, among other activities.
The KRI WSH-991 left Vanuatu on Tuesday, and it is scheduled to arrive in Papua New Guinea in the next five days, he informed.
"The Vanuatu people were impressed and helped by the presence of our troops," commander of the Pacific port visit task force, Colonel Arif Prasetyo Irbianto, said in a statement released by his office on Thursday.
In Vanuatu, KRI WSH-991 provided health services for the community, including general examinations, such as blood pressure checks, physical checks, and consultations; as well as services through the ENT (ear, nose, throat) polyclinic; X-ray and CT scan examinations; and dental and oral health checks and treatment.
"This is a good opportunity for us due to our limited hospital conditions. The people of Vanuatu are very fortunate with this health service, the community is very helped," Vanuatu Health Minister John Still Tari Qetu said while reviewing the activity on KRI WSH-991 on Sunday.
The crew members also carried out community services such as cleaning and repairing houses of worship, including the Du Sacre-Coeur Cathedral in Vila, Vanuatu, led by Lieutenant Colonel Yopie Lutfian Arief.
KRI WSH-991 is on a goodwill and humanitarian mission to four countries in the South Pacific, namely Solomon, Fiji, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea. So far, it has completed its mission in Solomon, Fiji, and Vanuatu.
KRI WSH-991 is sailing with a total of 177 personnel, consisting of 141 crew members and 36 staff from the task force, who comprise a team of divers, security forces, general practitioners, specialist doctors, Papuan students, and information officers from the Indonesian Navy Information Service.
