Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The West Java Regional Police is investigating a bomb threat during a graduation ceremony at Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) in Bandung.

Head of West Java Police Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, stated that the threat was spread in a terror letter flyer received by the campus ahead of the graduation ceremony on November 15-17, 2024.

"The investigation is still ongoing. We will dig deeper on the perpetrators who spread this terror," he confirmed in Bandung on Friday.

Currently, the explosive ordnance disposal team (Jihandak) of the West Java Police has carried out sterilization to ensure the security of the campus ahead of the graduation ceremony, Abast remarked.

"We carry out security efforts, including by (conducting) sterilization," he added.

Abast said that based on the results of the examination and sterilization, the police had not found any signs related to the bomb threat.

"We found no signs (related to the threat). The threat letter is responded to wisely by both the campus community and the entire Bandung City community," he remarked.

Although no evidence has been found, his side is increasing security by deploying 100 personnel during the graduation ceremony at the university.

"Starting this morning, we will continue the security measure by deploying 100 personnel to secure the graduation," Abast remarked.

Furthermore, the West Java Police has pledged to thoroughly investigate and take decisive action against those behind the bomb threat, which has sparked anxiety among university students and Bandung residents.

"We will reveal the perpetrators as soon as possible. They have triggered concerns among (members of) the community by spreading terror and false news," the police remarked.

As monitored from its official YouTube channel, the graduation ceremony at Unpar proceeded as scheduled for the vocational faculty and bachelor's degree recipients and later for the master's and doctoral candidates.
