"We are waiting for (the president) to have a discussion with the DPR," he remarked at the parliament complex here on Tuesday.
He urged the public to be patient while President Prabowo concludes his overseas tour and returns to the country.
"This VAT (of 12 percent) is still a plan, a proposal, and we are still discussing this and will wait for the president to come back (to talk about VAT)," he remarked.
He ensured that the government considered several factors in making policies that would not burden the people.
"The Minister of Finance, when proposing a plan to the president, has the reasons. We will see about this later. The point is to not trouble the people," he remarked.
He assured that any VAT increase would be accompanied by appropriate regulatory measures.
Earlier, on Wednesday (November 13), Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated that the plan to increase the VAT to 12 percent, starting January 1, 2025, will continue to be carried out following the mandate of the Tax Regulation Harmonization Law (UU HPP).
The UU HPP that was promulgated in 2021 contains the 12 percent VAT proposal by considering the people's basic needs and health conditions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
