"There are voices of concern from some that continued (implementation of) manual voting in elections will be burdensome," Sugiarto stated at a coordination meeting on population and civil records here on Thursday.
He pointed out that manual election might be causal to the high number of casualties among election officers at the local level during past elections.
They are exposed to long, demanding work hours, where they are required to file, record, and count ballot papers cast during election day.
He emphasized that a change to e-voting will relieve the burden of election officials.
"The change will also ensure our democracy continues to rely on valid population data," the deputy minister affirmed.

Sugiarto drew attention to the use of the Potential Voter Population List (DP4) by the General Elections Commission (KPU) to finalize their voters' roll in the upcoming local elections as a concrete example of the use of valid population data in the nation's democracy.
He added that the DP4 data is obtained from the Home Ministry's Population and Civil Records Directorate General data, which was updated daily.
"A local, presidential, or legislative election will not be successful without valid DP4 data. Hence, our democracy needs valid data," Sugiarto stressed.
The latest KPU DP4 data showed that 207,110,768 residents are registered to vote in the local elections on November 27, 2024.
