Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Veronica Tan highlighted that a paradigm shift should be done by giving teachers space for creativity and innovation in teaching early childhood education (PAUD) students.

"There is nothing more valuable than a teacher. If we train teachers, then we are actually building a better generation," she said in the ministry's statement on Sunday.

She delivered this during the opening of the Merdeka Curriculum Implementation Training to Improve PAUD Teachers' Competence in Jakarta on November 21.

Tan said that with the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, teachers can be given more space to be creative in teaching.

"The Merdeka Curriculum allows teachers to be more flexible in developing learning methods that suit the needs of children," she explained.

In addition to the cognitive aspects of the curriculum, she continued, children's morality, character, and national values should be developed.

According to Tan, the Merdeka Curriculum training aimed to increase the capacity of PAUD teachers by focusing on the innovation and flexibility aspects provided in the curriculum.

She said this training is expected to make PAUD teachers capable of taking maximum benefit from the surrounding environment, whether in the form of materials or technology, to create an interesting and effective learning method for students.

"This training activity is expected to equip the teachers with the skills to think creatively and teach with heart," Tan said.

She also expressed hope that the training will make teachers feel free to be creative in teaching students amid the existing limitations while still adhering to learning standards.
