Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission II, Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, assessed that the voting process for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election (Pilkada) on Wednesday (November 27) overall went smoothly and without major issues.

Commission II subsequently praised the election organizers, including the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), as well as officials at the provincial, district, and city levels, for their smooth handling of Pilkada.

"We also appreciate the role of local governments in effectively providing funds for the regional election," Karsayuda said when contacted on Thursday.

Earlier, Karsayuda had noted that 18 districts were unable to afford to implement Pilkada in their respective regions. However, this budget issue was resolved through coordination between DPR Commission II and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"Based on the provisions of the law, we, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, addressed the budget need by utilizing the State Budget (APBN)," he stated.

Additionally, Karsayuda highlighted that public safety and social order during Pilkada voting day remained stable, with no significant security incidents disrupting the process.

"Therefore, we commend the successful maintenance of security and stability," he said.

"This is a legacy for our nation — that we were able to conduct the elections at the local level smoothly and simultaneously," he added.

So far, Pilkada has reached the stage of vote result recapitulation.

The recapitulation is being carried out in stages at the sub-district level by the Sub-district Election Committee (PPK) from November 28 to December 3, 2024.

The district- and city-level recapitulation will take place from November 29 to December 6, while the provincial-level recapitulation is scheduled from November 30 to December 9, 2024.

The 2024 Regional Head Elections were held simultaneously on November 27 across 37 provinces, 93 cities, and 415 districts to elect mayors, district heads, and governors.

The newly elected governors and deputy governors will be sworn in on February 7, 2025, while the inauguration of elected mayors, vice mayors, district heads, and deputy district heads will take place on February 10, 2025.
