Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan, on Thursday, participated in commemorating the Independence Day of Timor-Leste to further step up Indonesia's bilateral ties with its neighboring country.

"At the instruction of President Prabowo Subianto and invitation of the Government of Timor-Leste, my delegation and I have represented Indonesia and our government in the commemoration of Timor-Leste's independence proclamation on November 28," he remarked.

Upon arriving at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, the coordinating minister noted that he received a cordial welcome from President of Timor-Leste Jose Ramos Horta during the official visit.

The former head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) noted that President Horta greeted him with the customary protocol typically extended during an official diplomatic courtesy meeting.

Gunawan affirmed that he and the Timor-Leste head of state engaged in an intense conversation, touching upon several strategic issues.

"During our meeting, we spoke about various things, with a special focus on viable ways to enhance and broaden the two countries' bilateral cooperation in an array of fields," he told the media.

Furthermore, the minister spoke of having forwarded a message from President Prabowo to his fellow president from Timor-Leste.

"There were a number of things (President Prabowo would like to convey). He has stated his keenness to pay a visit (to Timor-Leste) soon in a bid to tighten the bond and develop cooperation with Timor-Leste," he revealed.

The minister then expressed hope that his warm, smooth-running meeting with President Horta would positively impact the harmonious relations fostered between Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
