Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno received a visit from the Governor of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Lan Tianli, in Jakarta on Thursday to discuss continued cooperation in the development of vocational education.

During the meeting, Pratikno emphasized the importance of developing excellent human resources, particularly to address the rapid development of science and technology and the economy.

“We do not only need researchers and scientists but also technicians who are products of vocational education,” he said.

As part of efforts to bolster this cooperation, a vocational education alliance has been formed between the industries and the governments of China and Indonesia, he informed.

This alliance currently involves 126 vocational education institutions, thereby serving as a forum for collaboration between the two countries to improve the quality of human resources.

Pratikno also revealed that the cooperation covers various aspects, including educational support for Indonesian teachers and lecturers, as well as scholarships for Indonesian students to study in China.

According to the minister, the initiative is not only important for improving the quality of Indonesian human resources but also bolstering diplomatic ties.

“This is also part of people-to-people diplomacy, which is hoped to be able to bolster ties between countries,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Governor Lan said that his visit and the cooperation are a follow-up to an important consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Guangxi has several important projects in Indonesia that are directly related to the development of vocational education, he informed. They include an electric car manufacturing project and the Indonesia-China integrated industrial park.

He also highlighted that Indonesia and China are in a phase of significant economic transformation, where increasing the quality of the economy through smart economic and industrial transformation has become a priority.

He expressed optimism that by continuing and expanding high-quality vocational education cooperation, the two countries can provide significant support to each other’s growth.
