"The ministry and KPAI have a shared responsibility to ensure Indonesian children are protected from cybercrime," Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said during a meeting with representatives from KPAI here on Monday.
To this end, the ministry and KPAI are cooperating in carrying out efforts for the protection of children in the digital space, including the preparation of a draft government regulation on the management of child protection in electronic system implementation.
Hafid noted that the regulation is currently being harmonized with the help of relevant ministries and agencies.
She affirmed that the government is continuing to update regulations to stay relevant to the challenges of the times.
Minister Hafid expressed the hope that the synergy between her ministry and KPAI would bring about a significant improvement in child protection efforts in the digital space.
KPAI conveyed its support for the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs' initiative to prepare a regulation on the protection of children in the digital space.
The commission emphasized the importance of accelerating the issuance of the regulation and increasing education to build people's awareness about the threats of crimes in the digital space.
KPAI also expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the ministry to realize a safe digital space, including blocking access to negative content.
As of November 2024, the ministry, with the support of relevant institutions, has blocked more than 5.3 million items of online gambling content.
"I see that there has been an increase in content that has been taken down. This is a form of the ministry's concrete commitment to maintaining the security of the digital space for children," KPAI chairperson Ai Maryati said.
