Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman Abdurrahman confirmed that drivers of online motorcycle taxis, or ojol, will continue to be the beneficiaries of the fuel subsidy.

"Note that ojol drivers are classified as MSMEs. Those in the MSME sector will remain at the receiving end of the fuel subsidy," he remarked in a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

Abdurrahman stated that the decision resulted from a recent coordination meeting held by the Fuel Subsidy Task Force, during which the MSMEs Ministry proposed retaining ojol drivers in the list of fuel subsidy beneficiaries.

He highlighted that Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia is currently formulating a new technical regulation on the distribution of fuel subsidy.

Furthermore, he revealed that the MSMEs Ministry plans to organize a meeting with representatives of ojol drivers to clarify the government's plan to overhaul the distribution scheme for the subsidy for efficiency.

The minister also explained that the government is focusing the subsidy distribution on vehicles bearing yellow registration plates, mostly used by commercial and public transportation in Indonesia.

"This signifies that four-wheeled vehicles without a yellow license plate will not receive the fuel subsidy," he emphasized.

Earlier, on Wednesday (December 4), Minister Lahadalia made a similar statement, implying that ojol drivers will continue to benefit from the fuel subsidy.

He highlighted that the government is in the process of identifying ways to ensure on-point fuel subsidy distribution, considering that motorcycles used by ojol drivers are classified as private vehicles, so black plates rather than yellow ones are installed.

"We are trying to differentiate ojol motorbikes from other black-plated vehicles," he stated.
