Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno stated that his side had recently held a ministerial meeting with the Jakarta provincial government to consider flats as temporary housing before the victims moved to their new permanent residences.
"We are thinking of temporary housing. The Deputy Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (Fahri Hamzah) will pay attention to this," he remarked.
He stated that Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti will also look for flats as temporary housing for the Kemayoran fire victims.
According to Pratikno, the residents affected by the fire need to occupy temporary housing first before they can move to permanent housing, the location of which is still being discussed by the government.
The fire ravaged nearly 600 houses, and over 1,500 residents were displaced. Thousands of residents evacuated at the standby evacuation post at elementary public school SDN 09 Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, while other victims evacuated to a multipurpose field.
"The evacuees are now in the elementary school, even though the school will be used soon. (Meanwhile,) the people cannot stay long in the field," Pratikno stated.
While considering the temporary housing location, the central government has instructed to continue offering services and assistance for fire victims.
The fire broke out on Tuesday (December 10) afternoon in Kebon Kosong, a densely populated residential area. Seven neighboring units (RT) were affected by the fire.
