Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is currently in a state of emergency over sexual violence against women and children, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Arifah Fauzi stated here on Monday (Dec 16).

"We declare an emergency over sexual violence against women and children," Arifah stated during a forum themed "Women Empowerment Towards Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision."

To this end, the minister underscored the need for synergy and collaboration across ministries and institutions to prevent and handle violence against women and children.

"Coordination and synergy (are needed) because we cannot solve it alone. We have limited authority as well as budget. However, with shared awareness and the will to solve it together, we can," she noted.

Resolving issues of violence against women and children is of utmost importance, considering that women constitute nearly half of Indonesia's population, covering 49.42 percent, and children, as much as 31.6 percent.

"Women and children are the foundation of the nation and the family. Therefore, women's empowerment and child protection are strategic priorities to support the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045," Arifah added.

The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection carries three priority programs to encourage women's empowerment and child protection towards achieving the target of the Golden Indonesia vision.

The three programs are Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI), the expansion of the service function of Sahabat Perempuan dan Anak (SAPA) 129, and the strengthening of One Data for Women and Children based on villages.
