Gunawan received a visit from Ambassador Lakhdhir at the ministry's office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
"We discussed various potential cooperations on the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and the United States," Gunawan said in an official press release received by ANTARA.
According to the minister, Indonesia has a long history of good relations with the US.
Collaborations between the two countries have manifested in joint military exercises and also policies in the economic field.
Cooperation has also yielded good results for both parties, such as stronger military defense and the issuance of strategic economic policies.
Therefore, Minister Gunawan expressed the hope that the meeting with Lakhdhir would further strengthen bilateral relations.
"I hope that the two countries will continue to be committed to strengthening cooperation in various fields," he said.
Indonesia and the US forged diplomatic relations 75 years ago, or in 1949.
To mark the important milestone in the relationship between the two countries, President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House, Washington D.C., on November 12, 2024.
During the meeting, the US government expressed its full support for President Prabowo's administration and national priority programs, namely Asta Cita.
During the meeting, the two heads of state affirmed that they are on the same page regarding the need for Indonesia's foreign affairs minister and the US secretary of state convening comprehensive strategic dialogue regularly. (INE)
