According to its press release received here on Tuesday, the ministry has blocked Instagram accounts @sayaafun with 762 thousand followers, @nanda.feby06 with 428 thousand followers, and @nagitaovely with 357 thousand followers.
"We have zero tolerance toward those leveraging their popularity to promote illegal practices like online gambling, which has emerged as a dire threat to society, particularly our youngsters," Molly Prabawaty, the ministry's Acting Director General of Public Communication and Media, emphasized.
She noted that this month, her office had taken action against 221,116 pieces of digital content, accounts, and sites linked to online gambling.
From October 20 to December 30, 2024, the Komdigi Ministry blocked 658,889 similar items, including 604,590 found on websites and IPs, 27,526 on Meta platforms, 16,165 on file-sharing platforms, 6,331 on Google and YouTube, 3,698 on X, 378 on Telegram, and 197 on TikTok.
Prabawaty highlighted that between 2017 and 2024, the central government removed over 5.5 million such items from the digital space.
As instructed by President Prabowo Prabowo Subianto and Komdigi Minister Meutya Hafid, the ministry has also resorted to an educative approach by enhancing people's digital literacy to curb the spread of online gambling, she remarked.
"We would like to invite those from the younger generation to act as volunteers of digital literacy, assisting the government in creating a safer digital environment that is free from negative items of content," she stated.
The official then appealed to members of the public to report online gambling-related digital items to the authorities via www.aduankonten.id, WhatsApp 0811-922-54, and the anti-online gambling chatbot 0811-1001-5080.
