Jakarta (ANTARA) -

The government is committed to supporting optimal internet connectivity in digital villages to back the growth of the digital economy from the level of regions.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said in a statement released here on Saturday that one of the priority strategies to achieve the goal is enhancing cooperation with relevant industry players, especially mobile operators.

“Later on, we can have discussions with mobile operators. We need to know if a region is included in their commercial areas. If it is, we can ask whether a cell tower can be erected to boost the internet signal,” he expounded.

One of the villages that have adopted digital technology to boost economic development is Tambak Kalisogo Digital Village in Sidoarjo District, East Java.

The village is serving as a pilot project for other digital villages in Sidoarjo District.

Deputy Minister Patria explained that Tambak Kalisogo’s digitalization holds significant potential to boost the productivity of local residents, especially those engaged in the fisheries sector.

He also called for the optimization of facilities in the village to provide better public services to help villagers maintain the productivity of their ponds.

For instance, he asked that CCTV facilities be improved, not only for security surveillance but also for regularly checking the condition of the ponds and their commodities.

“I believe CCTV can be used for more than just security surveillance. It can also monitor the productive areas, like the ponds. We want to expand its functions further so that it can keep track of the economic activities in the village,” Patria said.
