Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The public prosecutor from the Badung District Attorney's Office, Bali, has demanded life imprisonment for two Ukrainian citizens—Ivan Volovod and Mykyta Volovod—for running a drug laboratory and factory in Tibubeneng, North Kuta, Badung.

"Demanding the panel of judges to declare the defendants legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a crime as per the first primary charge," Badung District Public Prosecutor Ramdhoni said at the trial on Tuesday.

The trial will continue with the reading of the plea on January 14, 2025.

As per the prosecutor's indictment, the 32-year-old twin brothers were invited by a man named Roman Nazarenko to come to Bali in August 2021.

They were asked to run a narcotics business and promised US$10 thousand for every kilogram of mephedrone they produced and US$3 thousand for every kilogram of marijuana.

The twins were then introduced to Oleksii Kolotov, who is also wanted by the police. Kolotov financed the drug production in January 2022. Before starting, the twins were taught to grow hydroponic marijuana.

They started by producing a total of 150 grams of mephedrone in two days.

They managed to produce one kilogram of mephedrone and four kilograms of marijuana.

The drugs were then delivered to a location based on Nazarenko's order.

Another figure has also been named in the case—a Russian citizen named Konstantin Kurtz who served as a courier and divided the drugs into small packages to be sold to customers.

Payments were made using a cryptocurrency exchange.

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police raided the drug lab and factory on May 2, 2024.

Mykyta was apprehended at the scene while Ivan was arrested in Benoa, South Kuta.
