Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko has urged his staff to revitalize research activities and make BRIN a central hub for national research activities.

He said that BRIN should function as the main organization for national research as well as coordinate research conducted by universities across Indonesia.

"With support provided, we want to ensure that research in universities thrives," he added in a statement issued by BRIN here on Wednesday.

He highlighted that large research initiatives depend on research infrastructure, which cannot be maximized fully if solely dependent on universities.

To address this, BRIN has appointed its deputy for research and innovation infrastructure to enhance collaboration between BRIN and universities in the country.

"This will be a flagship initiative of BRIN and an opportunity for collaboration, exploring the potentials both domestically and globally," he explained.

Handoko also stressed the need to expedite digitalization in all areas, including business processes and internal operations at BRIN, particularly processes such as planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.

He added that those processes need to be integrated. Moreover, he pointed out the importance of strengthening partnerships with various government ministries and agencies, especially the ones concerning global diplomacy, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs playing a key role.

Furthermore, he noted that enhancing governance and utilizing Big Data generated from BRIN's business and internal activities is also a priority.

"BRIN is leading the way in Electronic-Based Government Systems (SPBE) and in managing information and data. We need to demonstrate how we can effectively use the Big Data," Handoko added.
