Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transmigration and the Ministry of Finance explored various forms of alternative cooperation to realize industrialization in transmigration areas.

Transmigration Minister M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said here on Friday that this is in line with transformation efforts to develop large-scale industries in transmigration areas.

He informed that his ministry is seeking to get inputs from the Ministry of Finance regarding various models of cooperation with third parties that are mutually beneficial and can be used to finance the ministry's programs.

This is considered necessary because the Public Service Agency (BLU) and the State-Owned Agency (BMN) schemes that have been implemented so far are still inadequate.

Suryanagara noted that transmigrants already have business capital, namely in the form of land and labor force.

Thus, he said, what they currently need are insights and views regarding the forms of business entities that they can establish, for example, cooperatives and corporations.

The minister explained that cooperation is needed to attract investors and to provide benefits to transmigrants and local residents.

According to him, large investment is needed to increase the economic scale and competitiveness of transmigration areas, including through the development of agroindustry, agrotourism, and infrastructure.

The business cooperation scheme is also expected to ensure that the transmigration lands provided by the government will not be converted by their owners.

He expressed the hope that the results of the cooperation will finance the ministry's programs in an accountable and transparent manner to prevent the abuse of authority. That way, the ministry would not need to request a large allocation in the state budget.

Following their meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, the Ministry of Transmigration and the Ministry of Finance agreed to meet again to finalize alternative schemes for transmigration area development and its regulations.
