This assurance was provided by Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Agung Suganda in Yogyakarta on Saturday.
Suganda emphasized that the government has meticulously assessed commodity balances to guarantee sufficient beef availability for the upcoming festivities.
Furthermore, the government is actively bolstering supplies through a combination of beef and buffalo meat imports and domestic production.
"There is no need for public concern. We are committed to effectively controlling the FMD outbreak," he stated.
While acknowledging a recent increase in FMD cases, Suganda emphasized that the current situation remains significantly less severe than the 2022 outbreak.
Drawing upon the successful management of beef and buffalo meat supplies during the previous Ramadan and Eid, he expressed confidence in maintaining adequate availability this year.
"While the FMD fatality rate remains low, currently below two percent, the disease spreads rapidly, causing substantial economic losses," he noted.
Suganda revealed that the government has prepared four million doses of FMD vaccine for immediate distribution to high-risk regions, including Central Java and Yogyakarta.
Moreover, on January 3, the Minister of Agriculture issued a circular to all relevant governors, district heads, and mayors, urging proactive surveillance and preventive measures against the spread of infectious animal diseases, including FMD.
He explained that the detection of an FMD case within a livestock market would necessitate a mandatory 14-day closure, followed by thorough cleaning and disinfection procedures.
To effectively address the FMD outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture has established a National FMD Task Force, which includes representatives from livestock farmer associations and key professional organizations such as the Indonesian Animal Husbandry Graduates Association (ISPI) and the Indonesian Association of Veterinarians (PDHI).
