Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has announced plans to prepare a regulation on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) within three months.

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid stated on Monday that she has tasked her deputy, Nezar Patria, with drafting the regulation on AI usage.

Hafid noted that the government has already issued a circular outlining guidelines for AI use. These guidelines address aspects such as transparency, accountability, humanity, respect for copyright, and safety.

"We are indeed planning to elevate it to the level of a regulation. This is currently being discussed by Deputy Minister Nezar," she said.

Earlier, Patria said that the government is preparing a robust regulation to ensure AI technology is used responsibly across various sectors.

"We will develop principles for AI development and application, which can be adopted by sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, and financial services," he stated in a statement issued on December 17.

He further explained that discussions on the regulation will begin in mid-January, accompanied by a series of workshops and consultations.
