The four commodities affected by this ban are rice, table salt, table sugar, and corn for livestock feed.
Wijayanto stated when contacted from here on Friday that the final rice stock for 2024 in the food balance projection was recorded at 8.1 million tons.
This figure includes the Government Rice Reserves of around two million tons stored in the warehouses of state-run logistics company Bulog.
Meanwhile, for this year's production, the Ministry of Agriculture projects that the production of paddy equivalent to rice in the first quarter of 2025 will reach around nine million tons.
The peak of the main harvest is expected to occur in March, coinciding with the month of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
"For corn, the final stock of 2024 was around 4.1 million tons, and the sugar stock was 1.4 million tons in the sugar factory warehouses," he revealed.
Data from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries indicated that there are still 836 thousand tons of community-produced salt from last year, with local production in 2025 projected at 2.25 million tons.
Thus, this production is anticipated to meet around 63 percent of domestic demand.
Earlier, the Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, announced here on Thursday that the government has applied the import ban for four food commodities: rice, corn, sugar, and salt.
He expressed optimism that the policy would help Indonesia achieve its goal of food self-sufficiency.
The government is also committed to continuing efforts to strengthen farmers' capabilities through counseling, financial support, regulatory revisions, provision of superior seeds, and strengthening supply chains.
