Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto on Friday summoned Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, to the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, to inquire about the progress and shortcomings related to the Free Nutritious Meals program.

"Yes, we have been summoned to talk about matters concerning the Free Nutritious Meals program," Hindayana told the media at the palace.

He highlighted that among the topics of discussion would be the food poisoning incident that occurred at a school in Sukoharjo District, Central Java.

"We will report on the incident," he remarked.

Earlier, On Thursday (January 16), 40 pupils of Dukuh 03 Public Elementary School in Sukoharjo experienced nausea and vomiting after consuming the food served under the program.

On the same day, Hindayana explained that the poisoning was caused by errors in the processing of the crispy fried chicken on the menu.

"It was due to the processing technique. We will provide detailed information later," he told reporters.

He also highlighted that the authorities had immediately dispatched medical teams to treat the affected children and replaced all the spoiled chickens with eggs.

The Free Nutritious Meals program, which is a priority initiative of President Prabowo's administration, saw a nationwide launch on January 6, with the support of at least 190 special kitchens set up across 26 provinces.

This program primarily aims to improve the nutritional intake of toddlers, schoolchildren, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.

The initial target is for the nutritional program to reach three million beneficiaries in the first three months, with six million people expected to benefit from free nutritious meals in the subsequent quarter.

By 2029, the national program is projected to cater to the nutritional needs of about 83 million citizens.
