Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on Friday visited residents affected by the fire that broke out in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, earlier this week and distributed assistance in the form of staple goods.

Upon his arrival at a refugee site in Kebon Kosong Urban Village, Gibran greeted displaced residents and handed out drinking water, milk, hygiene kits, and infant diapers.

On the sidelines of the visit, he also performed Friday prayers with locals at At-Taqwa Mosque, which is located near the affected area, before returning to the refugee camp to distribute books to children.

He then affirmed that the government will always be present for its constituents and take swift action in the event of any disaster or incident.

He assured the fire victims that the authorities will soon undertake rehabilitation and reconstruction measures to help them resume normal activities.

He also underscored that coordination and transparency are vital for swift and effective emergency measures.

He then asked members of the public to exercise a higher level of vigilance against the risks of short circuits and gas cylinder explosions, which can spark fires.

Meanwhile, Kebon Kosong Village Head Susetyo Dewanto lauded the vice president for his visit, saying it was a testament to the government's genuine concern for the people.

"Mr. VP conversed directly with locals," he said while noting that Gibran assured the residents of the government's intention to help them meet their needs.

The fire broke out in a densely populated area on Kemayoran Gempol Street, on Wednesday morning, ravaging dozens of buildings and structures and displacing 119 individuals from 45 families.
