He made this statement in response to the global ranking of Indonesian passports, which placed 66th in The Henley Passport Index 2025, with a visa-free score of 76.
"Hopefully, the innovations we implement will improve the quality standard of Indonesian passports," Andrianto said after participating in the 75th Immigration Bhakti Day event at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex, here on Sunday.
He also expressed hope that the new passport design that will be launched on August 17, 2025, would boost the standing of Indonesian passports.
Further, he explained that the materials used for the passport will meet international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
In a separate occasion, Acting Director General of Immigration Saffar Muhammad Godam stated that the new passport design aims to enhance international trust in Indonesia.
"To adhere to international standards and strengthen international confidence in Indonesian passports, we inevitably need to move towards electronic passports," Godam added.
Previously, the Immigration and Corrections Ministry's director of immigration cooperation, Anggiat Napitupulu, explained the new features of the passports, which will not only function as travel documents but also represent Indonesian identity and culture.
"The new Indonesian passport is equipped with various sophisticated security features. So, the use of 33 traditional batik motifs printed with special technology is not only for aesthetic reasons, but also for security reasons," Napitupulu said.
Indonesia joined the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD) network in 2019. PKD is a central repository controlled by ICAO as a medium for authenticating travel documents for each registered country and as per the format of the travel document reader machine to ensure its validity.
ICAO PKD membership allows Indonesia to exchange information with other countries to verify the authenticity of travel documents and increase cooperation in combating transnational crimes involving document misuse.
