Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of India, by laying a wreath at the Raj Ghat Memorial Park in New Delhi, India, on Saturday.

The wreath-laying was a part of President Prabowo's official agenda in India. He was joined by several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet as well as Indonesian students studying in New Delhi.

The President placed the wreath at the memorial where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated, walked around the black marble platform, and spread red rose petals.

The activity included a moment of silence to pay respect to Gandhi, who was referred to as "Bapu," which means "Father."

Afterward, President Prabowo signed the guestbook, sharing his thoughts on Mahatma Gandhi.

He wrote, "Mahatma Gandhi is a great leader, great teacher, and great inspiration to all humanity. He has been my inspiration in the fight for justice, freedom, and human dignity. May his soul be at rest, and may his teachings remain eternal."

The Red and White Cabinet members who accompanied the President included Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono; and Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid.

They were joined by the Indonesian Ambassador to India, Ina Krisnamurthi.

On the same day, President Prabowo attended a welcoming reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan around 10 a.m. local time, where he was greeted by Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

At Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President inspected the troops and presided over a welcoming ceremony that featured the national anthems of both Indonesia and India.

Following this, Prabowo and Modi issued a joint statement at the Hyderabad House about the discussions between the Indonesian and Indian government delegations.
