Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Law is in the process of completing the documents needed for the extradition of corruption fugitive Paulus Tannos or Thian Po Tjhin, who is currently in Singapore.

Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas indicated that the documents must be submitted by March 3, 2025.

"Nevertheless, we will not wait until March 3. It will be (submitted) in the near future," he remarked after a press conference here on Wednesday.

Agtas explained that once the documents are ready, Tannos' extradition request would be processed first at the Singapore courts.

However, Agtas noted that the Indonesian government cannot intervene in Tannos' trial process in Singapore as there will still be an appeal stage after the first-level court decision in Singapore.

Despite this, he expressed optimism that the extradition request from the Indonesian Government would proceed smoothly.

Currently, the Indonesian Ministry of Law, the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Indonesian Attorney General's Office, and the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs continue to coordinate to expedite the extradition process.

He affirmed that a joint team comprising those institutions has also been formed.

Agtas noted that based on previous experience, Indonesia has successfully conducted extraditions for four people facing criminal charges in the country.

He stated that the extradition of Tannos is Indonesia's first such case with Singapore following the signing of an extradition agreement in 2022, which was ratified in 2023.

Meanwhile, he highlighted that Indonesia has completed extradition requests from other countries 20 times.

Tannos has been on the KPK's wanted list since October 19, 2021, due to his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal related to electronic ID card procurement, which, based on KPK's estimations, caused a financial loss of Rp2.3 trillion (around USD141.8 million) to the state.
