Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has allocated nearly Rp20 trillion (around US$1.23 billion) for the renovation of infrastructure in the education sector, including school buildings, toilets, as well as washing and clean water facilities.

At the BRI Microfinance Outlook 2025 event in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati informed that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the provision of hand-washing facilities for children to maintain hygiene.

"To this end, the budget for school renovation will continue to be increased. This year, we start with nearly Rp20 trillion," she said.

The Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education have discussed the implementation of the 2025 School/Madrasah (Islamic School) Revitalization Quick Win Program (PHTC).

It is a priority program to accelerate the realization of 13-year compulsory education and address the problems concerning equal access to education.

According to the Deputy Minister of Public Works, Diana Kusumastuti, the program will target 9,300 schools and 2,120 madrasahs at various levels, including special schools.

The revitalization will be carried out by the Ministry of Public Works with support from the state budget in two phases: the first phase will target 1,380 schools and madrasahs and the second phase 10,040 schools and madrasahs.

The 2025 state budget has set aside Rp724.3 trillion (around US$44.56 billion) for education. The amount will be distributed through three channels, namely central government spending of Rp297.2 trillion, transfers to regions of Rp345.1 trillion, and financing of Rp80 trillion.

Funds from transfers to regions will be used for several things, including the revitalization of education infrastructure and regional libraries.
