This plan aims to allow individuals with disabilities to serve the country through the military.
"We will set up a working group to evaluate whether it is necessary to allow people with disabilities to join the TNI, with the goal of supporting our main duties," Subiyanto stated during a press conference at the TNI Headquarters here on Friday.
The commander general noted that the concept was influenced by the National Police (Polri), which has already opened positions for people with disabilities.
Nevertheless, he pointed out that individuals with disabilities must still satisfy the criteria to qualify as TNI personnel.
The military will also assess which roles and responsibilities can be assigned to individuals with disabilities.
"Everyone has the right to become soldiers, but through different recruitment criteria," he explained.
Earlier, Polri's Inspector of General Supervision, Senior Commissioner Dedi Prasetyo, expressed his support for the inclusion of personnel with disabilities in the police force, which would allow them to pursue careers that align with their interests.
Prasetyo conveyed this on Friday during a meeting at the Polri Headquarters with 16 members who had joined the police force through the disability recruitment program.
The senior commissioner said his side would place personnel with disabilities in roles suitable for their skills, particularly in fields such as information technology (IT), cybersecurity, traffic, criminal investigation, and other sections.
He also assured that the National Police would support personnel keen on seeking higher education.
"The important aspect is that you should not give up or be afraid in facing challenges. You are part of the police community," he remarked.
