“In the first 100 days of this government, the Ministry of Tourism has successfully sustained the growth of both domestic and international tourist visits, which continue to rise compared to the same period in 2023,” she stated in an official release.
The latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that foreign tourist arrivals reached 13.9 million in 2024, up 19.05 percent compared to 2023.
Widiyanti also noted a significant growth in the movement of domestic tourists, which, according to BPS data, was recorded at 1.021 billion in 2024.
In the fourth quarter of 2024 alone, at least 263.13 million domestic tourists traveled around the country.
Overall, compared to 839.67 million in 2023, domestic tourist movement increased by 21.7 percent in 2024.
The increase in the number of tourist visits, both domestic and international, is considered to have had a positive impact on the national economy, she noted.
The tourism sector is estimated to have contributed US$16.7 billion in foreign exchange in 2024, up 19.3 percent compared to the previous year.
In addition, the contribution of the tourism sector to the national gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024 is estimated to have reached 4.01 percent to 4.5 percent.
Widiyanti said she believes that the tourist growth trend will continue from 2025 and help strengthen the contribution of Indonesia's tourism sector.
