"National Press Day is a valuable moment for all stakeholders in the national press ecosystem to work hand in hand, enhancing collaboration against threats and cooperation in seizing opportunities emerging from digital disruptions," he told ANTARA here on Sunday.
Rapid progress in information technology has proven to be highly impactful, putting considerable pressure on the existence of mainstream media, he added.
On that note, Patria emphasized that the government is committed to taking necessary measures to support the creation of a healthy and solid ecosystem for the media industry, with a special focus on the sustainability of news outlets.
The deputy minister then alluded to the fact that advancements in digital technology had prompted the government to protect citizens from a variety of threats linked to the digital space, such as misinformation, disinformation, online gambling, and online scams.
In view of this, he highlighted the need for collaboration between the government, the media, and the public to curb the spread of harmful digital content.
"We hope that the national media will remain steadfast in its commitments to combating disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation. It is also crucial that the government and the public step up their collaboration against these threats," he said.
Drawing attention to the role the press plays in a democracy, the official expressed hope that journalists would continue to facilitate productive interactions among the public, the government, and the world of business.
He also hoped that the press would stay true to its objectivity principle while informing the public about the government's work and performances.
"The government genuinely welcomes the press to contribute to the creation of a healthy public communication space," he concluded.
