Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has said that Indonesia and Turkey have agreed to strengthen collaboration in defense and security.

"Indonesia and Turkey will strengthen defense and security cooperation, including education and training for our armed forces personnel, intelligence cooperation, and counter-terrorism," he said while issuing a joint statement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan here on Wednesday.

While delivering the statement at Bogor Presidential Palace, Prabowo said that the two countries have agreed to increase joint production in the defense industry.

Meanwhile, President Erdogan backed Prabowo's statement on boosting bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defense.

He stated that there will be further discussions about the cooperation to go over the details that still need to be ironed out.

"We have discussed the existing cooperation in defense and potential future cooperation in more detail," Erdogan said.

During the state visit, the two leaders held their first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting.

At the meeting, the two countries agreed to ink a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in the defense industry.

The agreement was ratified through a document signing between the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and the Turkish Secretariat of the Defense Industries.

On the same occasion, Prabowo and Erdogan also witnessed the establishment of a joint venture among defense industry players Republikorp from Indonesia and Baykar from Turkey to set up drone production factories.
