Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and his Uzbek counterpart, Bakhtiyor Saidov, issued a joint statement following the Second Meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) between Indonesia and Uzbekistan.

The statement, finalized on Tuesday, highlighted discussions between the two ministers on strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors, including politics, security, economy, trade, and social and cultural exchanges.

"The two ministers also discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern, particularly the situations in Palestine and Afghanistan," according to the statement released by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

Sugiono and Saidov agreed on an action plan to implement priority programs outlined in the Joint Commission Meeting.

The statement also covered agreements on consular, economic, social, and cultural cooperation, as well as discussions on regional and international matters.

The ministers welcomed an increase in bilateral trade, which rose from US$141 million in 2023 to US$147.6 million in 2024.

Additionally, Sugiono and Saidov signed a visa-free agreement for official and diplomatic passport holders, a move expected to facilitate more frequent exchanges between government officials of both nations.

In socio-cultural matters, they expressed support for enhanced university-level cooperation, increased student exchanges, and stronger sports partnerships.
