Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has offered to host the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Global South Forum in the coming year.

The forum, organized by UNESCO, aims to promote the development and use of AI technology for developing countries in Asia, Africa, and the South Pacific.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria noted in the ministry's press release received here on Thursday that this proposal was based on Indonesia's achievement as the first country in Southeast Asia to complete UNESCO's Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM).

"This success demonstrates Indonesia's commitment to developing a responsible and ethical AI ecosystem," he remarked after meeting with UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, Gabriela Ramos, at the UNESCO Office in Paris on Tuesday (February 11) local time.

According to Patria, Indonesia's completion of RAM is an important factor in its bid to host the forum and demonstrates strong cooperation with UNESCO.

"We also want to express our gratitude for UNESCO's support that enabled Indonesia to complete RAM quickly. We are very thankful for UNESCO's assistance," he affirmed.

Patria added that Indonesia's collaboration with UNESCO strengthens its role as a key player in global AI development.

"Indonesia is prepared to contribute to inclusive and sustainable AI governance and is ready to serve as an example for other countries around the world," he stated.

Meanwhile, Ramos expressed her support for Indonesia's intention to host the AI Global South Forum next year and encouraged the country to prepare accordingly.

According to Ramos, hosting the forum would be a great opportunity for Indonesia to showcase its role as a key player in global AI development.
