Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto reiterated Indonesia’s desire to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as other economic cooperation forums such as BRICS.

Speaking at the World Governments Summit through a video conference on Thursday (February 13), Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to the non-aligned movement and principles of equality, self-determination and sovereignty.

“This approach guides Indonesia’s participation in many international organizations. Not only BRICS, we also apply to join the OECD, CPTPP and the Indo-Pacific Forum advocating for dialogue among equals, rather than adversaries,” he said.

Indonesia’s stance reflects its free and active foreign policy, which does not take side with any particular power, he added.

Indonesia has been maintaining good relations with the US as well as China, while safeguarding its own independence, Prabowo said.

“We strive to listen as much as we speak, forging partnerships based on trust and mutual respect,” he noted.

Moving forward, he continued, Indonesia aims to strengthen its role as a force for regional stability and development, while maintaining its position as a bridge between the Global North and the Global South to promote peace, cooperation and stability.

“But of course, we know that to be an effective actor on the global stage, we must keep our own house in order—we must do our homework at home. Our international influence and our ability to contribute meaningfully to global stability are linked to our own strength, resilience, economic progress, and the social welfare of our nation and our people.”

Therefore, Prabowo mentioned his vision to supporting Indonesia as a modern and advanced country, considering its abundant potential and natural resources.

The World Governments Summit is a high-level conference, held annually by the United Arab Emirates in Dubai.

In the forum, leaders from various countries gather with world institutions, including the United Nations (UN), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), experts from various sectors, civil society organizations, industry and the private sector.

The forum was first held in 2013 in Dubai. For this year's meeting, the Indonesian delegation was led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
