Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq and Canadian Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussen engaged in discussions regarding possible cooperation on blue carbon management as a strategy for tackling climate change.

"Through the bilateral meeting with Canada, we discussed blue carbon management as a strategic step in addressing climate change and maintaining ecosystem sustainability,” Hanif stated in connection with a meeting with Hussen held in Jakarta on Thursday (February 13).

During the meeting, Minister Hanif expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the environmental sector.

He also outlined several steps taken by the Indonesian government to address various environmental issues, including waste management, air and water pollution, as well as carbon potential.

The Indonesian Ministry of Environment pays special attention to resolving environmental issues in a comprehensive and integrated manner to combat waste and pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and implement waste-to-energy programs.

Hanif specifically highlighted prior cooperation in the environmental sector, including the Collaborative Environmental Project in Indonesia (CEPI) at the regional and local levels in Sulawesi from 1996 to 2003.

On that occasion, he also discussed the potential to expand the scope of collaboration between the two countries, including direct bilateral cooperation.
