The two discussed various issues, including Palestine, and explored cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), where Megawati currently chairs the agency's Steering Committee.
"They discussed cooperation between BRIN and the UAE’s research and innovation institution," Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi, who attended the meeting and served as a translator, said in a statement on Sunday.
Misrawi said that Prince Khaled showed interest in the cooperation due to the need for research on sanitation, clean water, and the development of quantum technology in the UAE.
The meeting also addressed Palestinian issues, during which Megawati urged all parties to fight for Palestinian independence. She conveyed the concern of her late father—Indonesia's first president, Soekarno—for Palestinian independence, particularly at the Asia-Africa Conference in Bandung, West Java, in 1955.
"We must fight together for Palestinian independence, as stated in the Ten Bandung Principles," Misrawi quoted Megawati as saying.
Before visiting Abu Dhabi, Megawati attended the World Leaders Summit on Children's Rights at the Vatican, where she expressed concern for children who are victims of war in Palestine.
During the meeting with Prince Khaled, Megawati was accompanied by her daughter, Puan Maharani, who serves as the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, while Prince Khaled was accompanied by several UAE ministers.
Misrawi said that the meeting was important for strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UAE.
