Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that his side warmly welcomes and is committed to bolstering collaboration in higher education with Timor-Leste.

In the ministry's statement made here on Saturday, Minister Yuliarto emphasized that Indonesia is strongly committed to supporting the improvement in the quality of human resources in Timor-Leste.

"As of 2024, we have recorded around 10,165 Timor-Leste students pursuing their education in Indonesia across various degrees. This number reflects the commitment of both countries to strengthen cooperation in the higher education sector to enhance human resource quality," he remarked.

He expected an increase in the number of Timor-Leste students continuing their studies in Indonesia.

According to Yuliarto, Timor-Leste graduates from Indonesian universities can serve as a bridge to strengthen the relations between the two countries, especially in higher education, science, and technology.

He expressed hope that cooperation between Indonesian universities and those in Timor-Leste can be improved, such as through the sister university program.

"With good collaboration, our universities can advance and grow stronger together," he stated.

He expressed hope that through closer cooperation, the number of postgraduate students from Timor-Leste studying at Indonesian campuses would double as compared to current figures.

Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Indonesia Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares expressed his gratitude for Indonesia's support in higher education, science, and technology.

He noted that Indonesia is a primary destination for Timor-Leste citizens keen on furthering their education.

"Indonesia is not just a neighboring country; it is a friendly nation to Timor-Leste. I hope this visit can enhance cooperation in higher education, science, and technology between Timor-Leste and Indonesia," he affirmed.

Ambassador Soares highlighted that Timor-Leste's Minister of Education will soon be visiting Indonesia.

Hence, he expressed hope that Minister Yuliarto would soon arrange a meeting with the minister of education from Timor-Leste.
